What woman would not be attracted to the image of a handsome man riding into her life during a time of trouble to rescue her and take her away to live happily ever after? In my little girl years this was standard fare for females everywhere. We were told that fairy tales weren’t real, yet we were encouraged to believe that we might be that one special girl whose dreams did come true.
I’ve often wondered if those stories had the impact on little boys to make them want to be the white knight who came charging in to rescue the beautiful damsel and carry her away to his world where she would remain beautiful and grateful for the rest of her life. Perhaps the magic worked for both male and female children.
Unfortunately, most girls end up kissing a lot of toads that do not turn into the handsome prince. And most guys end up kissing a lot of beauties who turn out to be toads.
To be loved is one of the basic human elements we all have in common. After being single for many years, I still hold out hope that someday I will have that gift in my life. Even big girls hold fast to some childhood dreams.
I Corinthians 13:13 says, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
This is the reality we crave – a love that lasts a lifetime. The only love I know for sure that will be faithful, true, unconditional, and last a lifetime is the love of God. He loved us so much that He sent His own Son to become a human being, to bring us the good news of God’s love, and to pay the price that we could not pay to redeem us from a broken relationship with God and a loveless life.
John 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”
No one will ever love you more than Jesus, who gave his life that YOU might know a love that will carry you into through eternity. No toad kissing required. It is God’s gift to you – the redemption of His great love for you individually. All you have to do is accept it.
