My dad is 82, my grandson 2. Eighty years apart, they had the best time sitting on the porch enjoying their suckers.
In this time of social media, television, and scheduled entertainment and educational opportunities for our children, I think there needs to be time set aside to just enjoy the simple things in this life as they happen.
I’m not sure my grandson will remember for very long what it felt like to sit on a bench with his Pappaw eating a sucker after they had been to the garden to plant some bean seeds. He certainly enjoyed it at the time. But Pappaw will remember it for the rest of his life.
The best gifts we can give to each other are the simple pleasures and the time we spend together enjoying them.
